EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration. EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact.
Public Safety Minister Vic Toews beat back criticism of the legislation by declaring that critics either stood with the Conservatives “or with the child pornographers.

Twinkies can survive a nuclear war but… #bankrupt

Yupp, twinkles are rumoured to be able to survive a nuclear war, however, their maker - Hostess - is apparently unable to survive this economic climate. Hostess, the makers of the Twinkie, Wonderbread, and other snack products you eat when you have nothing else to do, filed for bankruptcy Wednesday morning.

This doesn’t mean the brand will die. In fact, Hostess filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and has since restructured (obviously not well enough…). In any case, even if Hostess does liquidate (a fun word for something not so fun), companies often sell off brands in situations like this. So no worries, you can keep eating.

WiseUpWinnipeg - #speedtraps

Despite the misleading sounding name, WiseUpWinnipeg actually has nothing to do with wisdom or even cool sounding, metaphorical, vertical directions. Rather, the group is an advocacy group against Winnipeg speed traps.

They advocate against (advocate against? …can you even do that? is that even proper usage of the word? Isn’t that like an atheist praying for there to be no God?) the City of Winnipeg’s “deliberate and dangerous campaign to induce photo-enforcement violations and siphon your hard earned $$$”. Actually, despite my strange phrasing and the fact that no modern dictionary cites the word ‘money’ as spelled (or pronounced) “$$$” the group has a point.

Asking police to stop hunting speeding motorists on roads in which speed limits are not well posted, speed limits are inexplicably lower than the surrounding area or than one could reasonably expect in the given area, or where traffic regulations seem to make not sense whosoever (often the police themselves cannot explain why that ‘no right turn’ sign is there) seems reasonable enough. Actually, a reallocation of resources seems entirely reasonable considering that Winnipeg hit a record of 38 homicides this year and four are still unsolved.
